Yellow Spots on the Eyes? Let’s Talk Pinguecula

One of the most frequent signs I come across in my clinic is something called pingueculathose small, yellowish patches that appear near the iris in the white part of the eye (the sclera). While often dismissed as harmless, these markings can actually reveal a lot about what’s going on inside the body.

In iridology, we view the eyes as mirrors of internal function. They may be offering subtle but important clues about how well the body is metabolizing fats and the overall health of the liver and gallbladder.

Clients with these signs almost always report digestive discomfort, bloating, sluggishness, or nausea,  especially after consuming rich or fatty meals such as creamy sauces, fried foods, red meat, cheese, processed meats, or heavy desserts.

Bile acts like a natural detergent, breaking down large fat molecules into smaller ones so they can be properly absorbed. If the gallbladder is sluggish, inflamed, or blocked (as with gallstones), this process is impaired. The result? Fat isn’t properly emulsified, leading to symptoms like bloating, gas, nausea, and a heavy feeling after eating.

In some cases, poor bile flow may also affect the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K), further impacting energy levels, skin health, and immunity. Supporting the gallbladder, and by extension, the liver, with the right foods and herbs can significantly improve digestion and post-meal comfort.

When working with clients who present with scleral signs like pinguecula or who experience discomfort after eating rich, fatty foods, I always look deeper into the health of the liver and gallbladder. These two organs work closely together to metabolize fats, regulate cholesterol, and support detoxification.

In our sessions, I often ask: Have you ever had gallstones or liver/gallbladder sludge? Do you have a history of elevated liver enzymes on blood tests? What are your bowel movements like—are they regular, formed, and easy to pass? Do you have recent cholesterol or triglyceride results?

These questions help build a fuller picture of how the body is managing fat, toxins, and digestion overall.

The good news is that with the right herbal allies, like dandelion root, artichoke, and milk thistle, blended into a personalized formula and supported by diet and lifestyle changes that align with your constitution and current energetics, we can help your liver and gallbladder function more efficiently. As these organs regain balance, it’s not uncommon to see subtle but meaningful improvements in the signs reflected in your eyes..

If we work together, I will create a personalised herbal formula designed to support your liver and gallbladder, and we’ll review your diet and lifestyle habits to optimise your health.

For many clients, I recommend starting with a gentle detoxification, especially if you haven’t done one before. You’re welcome to join my upcoming 10-day group-led detox program, where we use herbs and natural protocols to stimulate lymphatic flow, enhance circulation, and support a gentle detox of the digestive system—including the liver and gallbladder.

If you’ve been consistently following a clean diet—minimising processed foods, sweets, and stimulant drinks—while enjoying plenty of green vegetables, fiber, and moderate amounts of meat, you may be ready for a deeper colon cleanse and liver flush.

Feel free to contact me for all the details and to find out if this next step is right for you.
